Views From Chimney Mountain

A quick hike near Indian Lake in the Adirondacks offers surprisingly good views of the area and out to the High Peaks Region.

About The Hike

Chimney Mountain is a 2.5 mile out & back hike with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain. The mountain is aptly named Chimney Mountain for it's large rock formations at the top that stretch up to the sky like giant chimneys. From the top of the mountain you get views down to the near by lakes as well as the Adirondack High Peaks on a clear day.

Take your time at the top to explore the geological formations including several large caves. These are easier to be discovered without the snow covering but even still there are some natural caves built in with the trail at the top. Explore at your own risk - the rocks form a high cliff and some of the cave depressions are said to be quite deep.
